How to Host a Spotify Party on Discord

Discord lets you host a virtual listening & let you host a Spotify party on Discord by streaming your favorite music through Spotify Premium and the “Listen Along” feature. One way of doing this is to create an invite for your friends, who will be prompted with instructions on how to join the Discord server where you are listening.

How To Install Spotify Auto DJ Bot For Discord On Windows & Host a Spotify Party on Discord

Step 1:

Download the latest version of Node.js from the official website. Download and install Git from the official website as well.

Step 2:

Extract the Node.js zip file to a location of your choosing, such as C:\Program Files\Nodejs for example. Extract the Spotify Auto DJ Bot zip file to a location of your choice, such as C:\Program Files\Spotify-Auto-DJ-Bot.

Step 3:

Navigate to the location where you extracted Spotify Auto DJ Bot in step 3 and open “spotify_auto_dj_bot” using Notepad or an equivalent program that can edit text files. Go to line number 28 and change “YOUR_SPOTIFY_USERNAME” to be your own Spotify username without quotation marks (if you do not have a premium account, this will be your name).

Go to line number 29 and change “YOUR_SPOTIFY_PASSWORD” to be your own Spotify password without quotation marks. Go to line number 30 and change “YOUR_SPOTIFY_CLIENT_ID” to be your own Spotify client ID without quotation marks. Go to line number 31 and change “/home/pi/spotify/spotify-autodj-bot.sh” to the location where you extracted the Spotify Auto DJ Bot program in step 3 (if you extracted it to C:\Program Files\Spotify-Auto-DJ-Bot then use /c/Program Files/Spotify-Auto-DJ-Bot).

Go to line number 32 and change “C:\Program Files\Nodejs” to the location where you extracted Node.js in step 2 (if you extracted it to C:\Program Files\Nodejs then use C:\Program Files\Nodejs). Save the file by pressing Ctrl + S or ⌘ + S.

Step 4:

Running the Spotify Auto DJ Bot. Press Ctrl + C to stop the Spotify Auto DJ Bot program. Go to the terminal and press Ctrl + V or ⌘ + V to paste in the following text exactly as shown below, then press Enter to run it: cd /home/pi/spotify/spotify-autodj-bot.sh node index.js Go back to your web browser where you have your Spotify account open and go to your “Discover” page.

Play a song you like by hovering over it and clicking on the green play button that appears in the bottom right corner of your screen, then wait a few seconds for it to start playing. The song will now be automatically added to a queue of songs that will play one after another using Spotify Auto DJ Bot! You can leave this running while you have friends over and have them add their favorite songs into the queue too! If you want more than one person to be able to add songs to the queue, then follow the instructions in Step 5 of this tutorial.

Setting Up More Than One User On The Spotify Auto DJ Bot

You can set up more than one user on the Spotify Auto DJ Bot program. To do so, follow these steps:

Go back to your terminal and press Ctrl + C or ⌘ + C to stop the Spotify Auto DJ Bot program. Run the following command exactly as shown below to edit the “spotify-autodj-bot.sh” file: sudo nano /home/pi/spotify/spotify-autodj-bot.sh.

Use the down arrow on your keyboard to scroll down to line 20, then add a new user by entering their username in quotation marks followed by a colon, then their password in quotation marks followed by a colon, then pressing Ctrl + X or ⌘ + X to save and exit the nano text editor. The line should now look similar to this: “username”: “password”, Now run the following command exactly as shown below: cd /home/pi sudo node index.js

Now you can start up Spotify Auto DJ Bot again and add songs from your account and from any of your friends accounts that you set up.

Spotify Auto DJ Bot Troubleshooting

If the Spotify Auto DJ Bot is not working, you may need to install the “node-spotify” library. To do so, follow these steps:

Open a terminal window by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T or ⌘ + Alt + T In your terminal window, enter the following command exactly as shown below: sudo apt-get install nodejs nodejs-legacy npm Press Enter to run the command and wait for it to finish.

Then enter the following commands exactly as shown below (you will be asked to enter your password): cd /home/pi npm install node-spotify. Press Enter to run the command and wait for it to finish. Now start up Spotify Auto DJ Bot again by running this command exactly as shown below in your terminal window: cd /home/pi sudo node index.js.
